| DAY
ONE
Morning:
Recall the steam-powered threshing era with scores of antique
farming equipment, agricultural implements and tools at
the Kinney Pioneer Museum. In addition
the facility includes a pioneer village with a one-room
schoolhouse, log cabin, blacksmith shop and demonstrations
on weekends of pioneer crafts and trades. A walk through
primitive prairie learning about different plant and animal
life native to the area at Lime Creek Nature Center is the next experience on the expedition.
Afternoon:
Enjoy a wonderful afternoon excursion on the Lady of the Lake , a paddlewheel
vessel that will be a perfect fit to a delightful day. Followed
by the North
Iowa Area Community College Agricultural Tour, featuring
an agronomic demonstration center showcasing transgenic
crops, chemical demonstrations, specialty crops, global
positioning systems, geographic information systems, yield
mapping and monitoring, and swine/beef production facilities.
Evening:
After checking in to the hotel, get ready to experience
a little bit of country during an old fashioned hayrack ride and a picnic
style barbecue. The hayrack ride, driven by a team of
horses, will take the group through the scenic trails at
the nature center.
DAY
TWO
Morning:
With soil conservation and water quality more important
than ever, the "make Clear Lake - clear again" project
tour takes on added relevance and interest to the farming
industry. During the tour, the group will learn how the
project promotes and studies ways to prevent soil and
chemical runoff. Next, spend the morning at the Rockford
Fossil Beds, where there is an abundance of fossils and
learn how early wildlife has been preserved over the years.
Take the opportunity to be an archeologist for a few moments
when members of the group get to find a fossil, which
they can take home.
Afternoon:
It's off to Charles City to trace the beginnings of the
tractor industry at the Floyd County Historical Museum.
The museum offers one of the most complete collections
of information about the founders of the tractor industry,
the Hart-Parr Company. Plus, the facility features an
"Old Reliable" the 1913 Model 30-60 Hart-Parr tractor.
