Architectural Slide Show / Architectural Tour
Interested in viewing the interior of the Prairie School style homes that are owned by local residents? The architectural slide show, held at the Charles H. MacNider Art Museum, is the perfect way to see the inside and also view historical photos of each Prairie School style home located in the community. Plus, the presentation includes historical information and photos regarding The Park Inn Hotel and the City National Bank, both designed by Wright.   In addition, the show explains Frank Lloyd Wright's design style and other recognizable features of the Prairie School design.  Special tour features include information about Wright's designed Prairie School residential home, bank building and the only remaining hotel in the world designed by Wright - all located in Mason City, Iowa!  Plus, learn the colorful details about the Rock Glen and Rock Crest area located in the community, the largest collection of Prairie School style homes on a unified site, and the leaders who made the neighborhood what it is today.  If the group would like to view the exteriors of many of the homes featured in the slide show presentation , a 3 ½ block walking tour can be provided of the Rock Glen / Rock Crest area or the guide can board the coach to provide a brief  overview of the area.

Culinary Experience -
Up In Smoke Barbecue BASH

For motorcoach tours only, groups are invited to learn the in’s and out’s of barbecue provided by a sanctioned barbecue judge.  These interactive presentations, available Friday before the Up in Smoke Barbecue BASH event held the last Fri. and Sat. in July at the event site (View more event information) or anytime during June – December at a location of your choice, there are several barbecue restaurants available.  Topics covered include the following:
  1. What is barbecue - Definition of the process. Where did the process originate. Where did the name come from.
  2. Serious smoke barbecuing - Go beyond your charcoal or gas grill - features of a good smoker. Various woods—hickory, apple, etc. Importance of sauces and rubs.
  3. Contest barbecuing - Very serious and fun! Categories of entries at sanctioned contest.
  4. Contest judging - Certification of judges, ground rules, procedures, pitfalls, no-no’s and scoring.

Hay-Rack Ride
Climb aboard a memory making hay-rack ride pulled by a team of horses. During the ride, the group will follow the scenic drive at the Lime Creek Nature Center.

Historical Presentations of the Civil War Era
Step back in time and learn about the Civil War era.  Discover why Iowa was the number one provider of volunteer infantry in the Union Army.  See and feel the fashions worn during this time period.  Presentations can occur any time of the year and are truly memorable when combined with the Civil War event held the 3rd weekend of August, (View more event information).  The presentations have minimal space needs thus can be held at any location.  Your choice of topics include:
  1. History of Medicine During the Civil War - war time medicine and the changes that brought America out of the medical dark ages.
  2. Civil War Fashion - both men and women’s fashions.
  3. Women’s Roles in Civil War - the war triggered changes in America that forever altered the women’s role.
  4. A Civilian’s Place - the hardships of civilians during the war.
  5. Soldiers & the War - concerns of soldiers, weapons, and uniforms.

This state of the art agronomic demonstration center, located on the North Iowa Community College (NIACC) campus, showcases transgenic crops, chemical demonstrations, specialty crops, global positioning systems, geographic information systems, yield mapping and monitoring, and swine/beef production facilities.

Special Showing of “The Music Man”
Lights, camera, action!  A special private showing of “The Music Man” video can be provided for your group.  Popcorn will be included as a special treat for groups that wish to enjoy this Broadway favorite.

Wine Sampling
Motorcoach groups are invited to take part in one of the most popular activities - wine sampling.  Groups will enjoy a variety of different wines while learning and having fun.  “Uncle Bruce”, a local wine guru, will entertain your group in a private wine tasting area featuring a scenic painted mural of a winery.  In addition, a variety of wines will be available for purchase with discounts offered.  Groups can also select an off site location of their choice.
