Fireworks Ground DisplayWe have all seen fireworks but...NOTHING compares to the displays during the PGI Convention! This family oriented event sets itself apart with cutting-edge entertainment featuring ground and aerial fireworks that are meticulously choreographed with music and other special effects. The Pyrotechnics Guild International is back bigger and better than ever to light up the sky in the North Iowa area after a five-year lull. This exciting and highly entertaining fireworks convention will once again be headquartered out of the North Iowa Events Center (formerly known as the North Iowa Fairgrounds) in Mason City, Iowa. The event will feature some of the finest fireworks displays in the country created and displayed by some of the most recognized fireworks companies and hobbyists in the world. Some shells have never been seen in a public show before because they are too complicated or too labor intensive to be manufactured commercially.

This is not your typical fireworks show - this is the best of the best!  Purchasing tickets is a must since over 70% of fireworks featured in the shows are ground displays – unable to be seen anywhere except from the comfort of your seat at the North Iowa Events Center. In addition, only those in the grandstands will be able to witness the synchronized music with the fireworks creating a "pyro-musical", learn the techniques used from the commentary provided and feel the heat!   Plus... local support was vital in attracting the event to the area. Local support is equally important in ensuring the success and future return of the event. Please help support this event positioning the community for a return visit by purchasing grandstand tickets.  To help plan your fireworks outing, the following are answers to frequently asked questions

Will Call Tickets:
Due to the ability to purchase tickets online at your convenience, will call tickets will be limited.  If will call tickets are required, tickets must be picked up by the person indicated at the time of purchase.  Photo ID is required for pick up.
When to Arrive:  Gates will open at 6 pm.   Sun., Tues. and Wed. displays start at 8:30 pm.   Friday’s show starts at 8 pm. Event organizers recommend arriving early.  You may see and hear fireworks at the site starting as early as 4pm each afternoon. This doesn't mean the show has started without you.  It's just open shooting and competition shooting which is held before and after all the public display shows.
What to Bring: Some of the pyrotechnics can be loud, and attendees, particularly those sensitive to loud noises, may want to bring earplugs.  Local vendors will be on-site serving food and beverages.  Patrons will not be allowed to bring in coolers, food/beverages or chairs (small bleacher / stadium chairs are permitted).  Tailgating is not permitted in the parking lots.  Non-reserved seating is on a first-come-first served basis; no saved seats will be permitted.  Don't forget to bring your pre-printed tickets with you.  These will be required for each person to access the North Iowa Events Center.  Have your ticket or cash (if you plan to purchase tickets at the gate) on hand as you enter the parking lot.
General Public Entrance / Parking / Exit: Parking for the event at the North Iowa Events Center is free.  To access the North Iowa Events Center grounds for parking you must have a PGI general public display ticket per person in the vehicle.  All general public traffic during Aug. 5 – 17, 2014 must enter the Events center using the road off of Roosevelt Street, between Target / Staples and Mills Fleet Farm.  Local residents are to expect delays along Hwy. 122 West and are encouraged to use alternative routes if possible to keep delays at a minimum.  Left hand turns from east bound Hwy. 122 to the south entrance of the Events Center will be closed from Aug. 5-17, 2014.  Due to the large number of people expected to attend the PGI convention and the nightly fireworks shows, organizers ask that drivers obey all traffic restrictions and drive carefully.  Night show traffic is limited to passenger cars, vans and pickups.  No motorhomes, campers or buses will be admitted without previous arrangements.  After the shows, all traffic will exit from the east entrance to Roosevelt Avenue, in two lines which will separate into 3 lines at the intersection of Roosevelt Avenue and Hwy. 122. The Mason City Police Department will provide traffic control and utilize traffic lights to manage the flow of traffic. Handicap parking will be available to those with appropriate parking permits.
Show Descriptions:
Sunday, August 10th - Opening the event will be a unique patriotic national anthem.  Next, Wildfire Shows will create "900 feet of pyro track" to reenact what it might look like if two steam locomotives collided.  Live filming for a fireworks movie is next in the lineup followed by a "Buffet of Fireworks".  This show features a suite of firework effects stitched into a fast-paced pyro musical by Flower King.  Hometown favorite Flashing Thunder, out of Mitchell Iowa, will close out the evening.  This show will offer a potpourri of fireworks from around the world.  This show will be Flashing Thunder's "Welcome to Mason City" tribute done in pyro style.
Tuesday, August 12th - The Iowa Pyrotechnic Assoc. will start the evening with a "pyro thunderstorm".  With over 50 man hours in just the music choreography portion of the show and more than 1,100 shots in the finale; all will see an amazing Iowa light show.   A Gaming Extravaganza will follow created by Bluegrass Pyros.  This groundbreaking show boasts more set pieces and fronts than anything the PGI has seen in the past 40 years.  Bluegrass Pyros is one of the most active fireworks clubs on the planet - this is going to be a jaw dropping display!
Wednesday, August 13th - The youth organization, Junior Pyrotechnics Association, will kick off the night with a show featuring what they learned during their time at the convention.  Then A.M. Displays will take the stage with every shell used during the show built here in the USA.  This one-of-a-kind display features a wide variety of firework effects.  Some so new they will be introduced for the first time here in Mason City.  In the USA it is "Go Big or Go Home" when it comes to fireworks, so expect a blazing finale.  This show has taken over 6 months to make and will fill the sky with a wall of color.  Closing out the night is J&M Displays, another great Iowa based company.  Don't count on any "hard rock" or "modern bebop" in this display titled "A Baby Boomer Pyro-Musical. "  This display will be cutting edge, so be prepared to expect the unexpected with shells ranging from 2.5" up to 16". There will be a number of display fronts with crossing comets, larger than life gerbs and some unusual lance work.
Friday, August 15th - The grand finale night will begin with the infamous “Mega String” comprised of over 14 million fire crackers followed by the "Super String" with 2 million crackers.  Each creating an amazing sound and unique fireball effect. The night will also include an "All Star’s Display", a show made by the best PGI shell builders; a display like no other.  "Summertime… in Backyard America" is the title of the pyro musical created by Northern Lights.  This display will be over the top with all 900 ft. of the display area populated with 33 firing positions.  This "backyard display" will be 3 football fields wide!  The closing Grand Public Display by Wolverine will be a real show stealer.   Rumor has it that this show "breaks the budget".  Expect unusual set pieces and more from this fireworks powerhouse.
