Exhibition: Phobias by Jeff Rider
Jeff Rider is an Iowa-based artist whose work explores the intersection of humor, psychology, and social commentary. His Phobia Series, begun in 2011 and completed in 2023, comprise four distinct series totaling 200 works. Each series presents fifty collage-based works that draw from both real and imagined fears, combining layered imagery with surreal visual elements that blur the line between the familiar and the absurd.
Through this body of work, Rider examines how fear has been historically manipulated to shape public perception and influence decision-making. Often in ways that do not serve the broader good, his work balances wit and critique.
