A true Mason City icon, Birdsall's Ice Cream is celebrating 95 years of serving up homemade goodness. Since Addison and Esther Birdsall opened Birdsall's Ice Cream Co. in 1931, the shop has remained a beloved destination for both locals and visitors alike.

Known for its nostalgic charm and hand-dipped flavors, Birdsall's offers more than just a sweet treat, it provides an experience rooted in tradition. Generations of families have gathered here, creating lasting memories that continue to make Birdsall's a special part of downtown Mason City.

While the building itself is simple, its legacy is anything but. For nearly a century, Birdsall's Ice Cream has been a place where community, connection, and a love for classic ice cream come together, making it one of downtown's most cherished landmarks.

Reflections Salon – Celebrating 35 Years of Style

Celebrating 35 years in downtown Mason City, Reflections Salon has built a strong reputation for quality, creativity, and care. Owner Diane Arndt, who was a partner in opening the salon, now leads a talented team of seven stylists and nail technicians. Over the decades, the salon has remained committed to professional excellence, continually honing skills and embracing new techniques to serve clients better.

With a friendly, knowledgeable staff ready to answer questions and provide personalized recommendations, Reflections Salon has become a welcoming space where clients can relax, refresh, and leave looking and feeling their best—making it a true mainstay of the downtown community.

Central Park Dentistry – Trusted Care Since 1993

For more than three decades, Central Park Dentistry has been a trusted name in North Iowa. In 1993, Dr. Jay Lala opened Central Park Dentistry in downtown Mason City and quickly became recognized as one of the top dentists in North Iowa. From the very beginning, the practice was built on a simple but powerful philosophy: deliver outstanding customer service while creating a positive patient experience.

That commitment has fueled years of growth and a strong reputation among patients. Today, Central Park Dentistry operates out of three locations across North Iowa, with its original downtown Mason City office continuing to serve as a cornerstone for patient care in the heart of the community. With a focus on comfort, expertise, and personalized attention, the practice helps generations of residents smile a little brighter while maintaining its dedication to its downtown roots.

Moorman Clothiers – A Local Favorite Since 1993

What began as a dream for Scott Moorman became a downtown staple on April 1, 1993, when he and his wife Susan opened the doors to Moorman Clothiers.

Over the years, the business has evolved while staying true to its roots. In 2009, the store relocated across the Plaza, making way for the restoration of the Historic Park Inn Hotel. Today, Moorman Clothiers offers a curated selection ranging from everyday wear to formal attire, paired with exceptional customer service and style expertise.

Scott and Susan continue to own and operate the Mason City location, while their son Justin owns and operates a second location in downtown Ames, carrying on the family tradition of quality and service.

Brix Wine & Whiskey – A Downtown Staple Celebrating 5 Years

Brix Wine & Whiskey has quickly become a beloved destination in downtown Mason City. Melissa Evans purchased Brix in March 2021, bringing her vision of a stylish and cozy spot for friends and neighbors to gather.

Nestled in the heart of downtown, Brix offers a wide selection of wines, whiskey, craft beers, and other beverages to suit every taste. The welcoming, relaxed atmosphere makes it an ideal spot to unwind after work or catch up with friends.

In early 2025, Melissa relocated Brix to 28 E. State Street, continuing to host live music and support the next generation of local musicians. With exceptional drinks, lively entertainment, and a warm, community-focused vibe, Brix has become a true staple of downtown Mason City.

Simply Nourished – Celebrating 5 Years in the Heart of Downtown

In just five years, Simply Nourished has made a meaningful impact in downtown Mason City. Focused on providing access to organic, specialty, and local foods, the shop offers more than just groceries—it delivers an experience.

Owner Melissa Fabian opened the Downtown Mason City location in 2021 as a second Simply Nourished store, expanding from the original Clear Lake location. Today, it stands as the only Simply Nourished location in North Iowa, continuing its mission while serving as a go-to destination for quality ingredients and unique finds.

From thoughtfully selected kitchen and houseware products to its welcoming atmosphere, Simply Nourished inspires customers both in their kitchens and in their everyday lives.
