Main Street Mason City Celebrates FY2025 Award Winners
“How Sweet It Is Serving the Community”
Main Street Mason City recently celebrated another year of impact, collaboration, and community during its FY2025 Annual Meeting. With this year’s theme, “How Sweet It Is Serving the Community,” the evening honored the individuals, businesses, and partners who continue to shape a vibrant and thriving downtown district.
Legacy Flavor Award for Impact
The first award of the evening recognized a business whose legacy has been woven into the very fabric of downtown. We were proud to honor Scott Moorman of Moorman Clothiers. Since 1993, Scott and his wife Susan have not only built a successful business—they’ve been champions of progress, community, and possibility in Mason City. As a Main Street Program Pioneer, Scott has generously shared his leadership and vision to help bring bold ideas to life. From advocating for small businesses to quite literally relocating their store to support the restoration of the Historic Park Inn, the Moormans’ commitment is both rare and deeply impactful.
Sweet Supporter Award
The Sweet Supporter Award was presented to KCMR Radio for their outstanding partnership and dedication to telling the Main Street story. This past year, the launch of the bi-weekly Main Street Minute created a powerful platform to highlight events, volunteer opportunities, business growth, and district improvements. Beyond the airwaves, KCMR has helped amplify community voices and strengthen engagement, making them an invaluable supporter of our mission.
Neopolitan Award
Celebrating the perfect blend of vision, collaboration, and craftsmanship, the Neopolitan Award recognized the remarkable restoration of the historic Markley Youngblood Building. Following significant damage, the project team—led by owners of Splash Printing Co., Bergland + Cram, and Henkel Construction—chose restoration over replacement, bringing the storefront back to its original 1902 design. From uncovering historic structural elements to balancing preservation with modern standards, this project stands as a testament to what’s possible when partners work together toward a shared vision of economic vitality and historic preservation.
Rising Star Sundae Award
The Rising Star Sundae Award celebrated one of downtown’s newest and sweetest additions—The Sugar Stash. Since opening in September 2025, this charming shop has quickly become a destination for visitors of all ages, offering nostalgic treats, unique sweets, and a welcoming atmosphere. With plans for a vintage-inspired soda fountain on the horizon, The Sugar Stash continues to build excitement and bring fresh energy to the district.
Golden Scoop Award
This year’s Golden Scoop Award recognized Jon and Rachel Holt of The Quarry & Tapas Bar for their long-standing commitment to downtown Mason City. Since opening in 2005, The Quarry has been a cornerstone of the district, offering exceptional dining experiences while honoring the building’s rich history—including exposed limestone from the original 1869 Cerro Gordo Bank. Their continued investment and passion for quality have helped create a vibrant, welcoming space that draws both locals and visitors alike.
The Cherry on Top
Our final award of the evening celebrated the volunteers who truly make Main Street shine. This year’s “Cherry on Top” recipients—Karen, Tammy, Nancy, and their supportive spouses—are the dedicated hands behind our beautiful flowerbeds, seasonal décor, and welcoming streetscapes. From leading clean-up efforts to coordinating the annual flowerpot program and creating festive holiday displays, their pride and passion for our community are evident in every detail. Their impact is lasting, visible, and deeply appreciated.
As we concluded the evening, we extended heartfelt thanks to the downtown partners who helped make the celebration possible, including Birdsall’s Ice Cream, The Olde Creamery, Roots Nutrition Counseling & Boards & Bars, Three on the Tree Coffee & Café, and The Sugar Stash. Their contributions added the perfect touch of sweetness to the night.
Congratulations to all of our FY2025 award winners, and thank you to our investors, volunteers, and community supporters. Your dedication fuels the success of Main Street Mason City. Together, we’ve accomplished so much—and we look forward to even greater opportunities ahead. Cheers to our community, our shared impact, and a bright future for downtown Mason City!
