This year’s theme, “Bands, Birthdays, and Brass,” is all about celebrating milestones big and small—from the powerful legacy of marching bands to the spirit of innovation and community pride that continues to shape our culture. And with America’s birthday as part of the inspiration, you can expect a weekend filled with patriotic energy, unforgettable performances, and plenty of red, white, and brass.
Recognized as the largest free marching band competition in the Midwest, the North Iowa Band Festival brings together talented musicians from across the region for a one-of-a-kind showcase in downtown Mason City. From the first note to the final encore, the festival is a celebration of musical excellence, community spirit, and timeless traditions.
Set in the heart of The Original River City—and hometown of Meredith Willson—this event feels like stepping into a living soundtrack of Americana.
Five Days of Festivities
The celebration kicks off Thursday evening, May 21st, with performances by the John Adams Middle School Band and the Mason City Municipal Band, setting the tone for an exciting weekend ahead.
