Mason City Shines Statewide: iTIP Honors Two Local Destinations with Prestigious 2026 Awards

Mason City is celebrating a major moment on the statewide stage as Iowa Travel Industry Partners (iTIP), the leading statewide association for tourism and hospitality professionals, has recognized two local destinations with top honors in its 2026 iTIP Awards. The annual awards will be presented at the iTIP meeting on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, in Amana.

From revitalized riverfront experiences to nationally recognized cultural storytelling, these awards highlight what locals and visitors already know—Mason City continues to stand out as one of Iowa’s most creative, welcoming, and experience-driven destinations.

River City Riverwalk & Waterfront Plaza: A Vision That Transformed the Waterfront

River City Riverwalk & Waterfront Plaza has been selected for a 2026 Only in Iowa Tourism Award, recognizing its powerful transformation of a once-overlooked waterway into a vibrant, art-forward destination in the heart of downtown Mason City.

What was once an underutilized corridor is now a gathering place that invites exploration, connection, and discovery. The Riverwalk has become a catalyst for downtown revitalization—drawing visitors into the core of the city and encouraging deeper engagement with local dining, shopping, and lodging.

Blending public art, architecture, and natural beauty, the Riverwalk reflects Mason City’s strong creative identity. It highlights the city’s cultural heritage in a way that feels both timeless and refreshingly modern. With its thoughtful design and community-driven vision, the Riverwalk continues to demonstrate how collaboration can shape a destination that feels both authentic and unforgettable.

The Music Man Square: Where Hospitality Meets Iowa’s Musical Legacy

The Music Man Square has earned the Service Excellence Award for its outstanding commitment to visitor experience and hospitality.

A cornerstone of Mason City’s cultural identity, The Music Man Square delivers an immersive experience that brings the city’s rich musical heritage to life. Through engaging storytelling, thoughtful programming, and a warm, relationship-focused approach, each visit is designed to feel personal, welcoming, and memorable.

Welcoming thousands of visitors each year from across the country—and maintaining strong offseason attendance through signature events—the attraction plays an essential role in Mason City’s tourism economy. Its dedicated staff and volunteers continue to elevate every experience, ensuring guests leave with a deeper appreciation for both the history and heart of the community.

A Shared Celebration for Mason City Tourism

Together, these two honors reflect the strength of Mason City’s tourism story: one rooted in creativity, collaboration, and a commitment to authentic visitor experiences. Whether it’s the revitalized energy along the riverfront or the enduring charm of a world-renowned musical landmark, Mason City continues to build experiences that leave a lasting impression.

As iTIP prepares to recognize these achievements this June, Mason City has every reason to celebrate the people, places, and partnerships that make the community a standout destination across Iowa—and beyond.
